So wonderful to hear of Mars progress and the connections you are making. I love the floortime/RDI, social engagement on their terms approaches - for my son and for myself. When I take the time to stop and be with him, pay attention and follow his lead (and yes, of course, there are times he prefers his alone time), I see things that I didn't notice when I'm worried over how to teach him this or that skill. It helps me relax and just be with him, as he is. I love it, and I love that you are exploring this with Mars, too.
