Thank you for joining me at Life With Mars, and welcome to my new subscribers, thanks for being here! For those already receiving my newsletter you may notice my rebrand, hope you like it!
My brain mass feels like a bulging sack of rocks, weighing down inside my skull. Once again it is my morning to get up with Mars after a poor sleep snuggled up beside him. A storm is raging above my head, the vaulted ceiling resulting in a thunderous noise as if bags of giant marbles are being poured onto the roof from a height. My hot water bottle still feels quite warm, telling me it is no later than 4:30am, and when I turn to check it is 4:27. However I won’t complain, this is still preferable to sub 0400 hours, which on occasion it is just that.
Mars is giggling and chattering away at an alarmingly loud volume for this time of morning. Again I won’t complain as at least the light hasn’t been turned on and he isn’t trying to pull the pillow out from under my head. I will try every trick to stay in bed in the dark for a few more minutes.
The continuous chatter of echolalia is persistent in my ears, so I reach to turn on the kids meditation and close my eyes again as the crashing and tumbling of waves begins. Mars starts to quieten down and just cuddles up for a while before his chatter is more of a murmur.
I manage to doze while he talks about gruffalos, buckling seat belts and wolves burning bottoms, until he asks to go to the toilet. Hauling myself out of bed he jumps on my back as the gingerbread boy as I feel around in the dark trying not to collide with the furniture.
After he has been we manage another ten minutes attempting to doze before he turns the light on and pulls my pillow out from under my head.
Creeping down the stairs with intense rain, thunder and hail in the background, my eyes hastily adjust to every light that Mars has switched on. The espresso machine is the first item I turn on, followed by heater one and heater two, the modem and then the tv - this precise order brings me calm.
Cartoons for Mars, coffee for me, and it is the start of another new day.
Does your day start with a child or pet alarm clock? I would love to hear!
Thanks Robin, echolalia is so fascinating, exhausting but fascinating. I am really curious to wether your son grew out of it? I have no clue where Mars will go with it 🤷🏻♀️ I wish I could send you some rain, we certainly are having our fair share although it is winter here 🥶
This is a great picture of a very early morning - I remember many of these mornings, and the chatter of echolalia so so early...! (now I usually have the opposite problem of waking up my son hopefully before noon!) I’m glad you have coffee & I’m jealous of your rain. Beautifully descriptive piece - and yay to your new branding!!!
