Good luck with the new home construction! We just about hung on through an 18 month renovation project that caused some stress especially for our younger autistic girl, so I understand that mountain ahead, but the end result was worth it!
Thanks for the luck Steph ☺️ sounds like an undertaking you guys took with your renovations, so glad it was well worth it! Did you do any specific things for your daughter?
I guess we just involved her in the plans as much as we could from the start, gave her some choices, let her see the progress. She coped much better than we thought she would!
I like that, that sounds like a great way to help her with the transition. Mars is 7 and doesn’t comprehend everything we say but he likes looking at the plans and is excited to have a dining table outside that we have in the plans, so hopefully that will keep him going. I’m
Not sure we will be able to show him through as he is quite reckless, but maybe one the walls are up we can ☺️
Happy to hear your update!! Good luck with the home building- such an exciting and exhausting project, I hope it all comes together for you and your family. Whenever we moved, we used pictures to show “old room/new room” and tried to have some furniture or items that stayed the same, to help our son feel more comfortable. But he always surprised us and was more ready for the moves than I was myself!
Looking forward to hearing about his therapy dog, too!! 🐶
Thanks Robin, it is definitely a very full on project when we are already so time poor, but will be worth it when we get there. I love the idea of old room/new room pictures, thanks! We are taking all our furniture and not getting anything new which will hopefully help, and we have said he can choose the colour of his room although he just wants a giant t-Rex (a scary one he says!) big wall paper thing we found online, so hoping that will help him feel happy and comfortable 😄
