Our household is in a season we have not experienced before.
As a family of four at least.
My husband is a contractor and is currently having an extended break between contracts, not by choice but I find when these happen it always seems to be at a time that we really need it.
Mars has been at school for a term now, he only attends 2-3 mornings a week for 2 hours, which overall is going better than we could have imagined. However the transition is one I don't feel I would have managed on my own.
Sharing the load of constant meetings, the challenges of drops off, pick ups and strategies to make this successful for Mars has made this step feel more manageable.
Our household has also felt more calm and I wish we could always stay in this bubble, but our savings account certainly wouldn't thank us!
In the meantime I will enjoy the additional camaraderie that my husband and I have while I can. We always work well as a team and when he is on a contract we strategise how we can make each day work smoothly and give Mars all the supports he needs.
With this extra time I am managing to work on a few projects of my own, hopefully once Mars is settled into longer school hours I will be able to find a balance that works for me too.
I love seeing Mars enjoying having more time with his Dad, I am certain it is having a huge impact on his nervous system. He has been more calm over all, has started to walk more rather than run, and has been less dys-regulated. If only life wasn't so complex and we could always give Mars this level of support.
Maybe we need to start buying lottery tickets!
Thanks Robin, after posting this things have gone a bit awry with school and very little sleep again! But these cycles is how it is. Glad you are enjoying some time too 🥰
I hope you can find some ways to carry this balance into the future, it sounds like a nice level of peace you’ve found. We are in a somewhat similar mode (my husbands own break from contracting is more purposeful though) & we are enjoying it
